Programme 2008 June 9th The Hackness Ladies' Choir. This is the choir's first visit, they come with many glowing recommendations 16th Bramcote School. The school has an outstanding reputation; the recent production of Oliver was exceptional. 23rd Pat Richardson, Leslie Machen & Ken Thwaites. Outstanding baritone and soprano solos and duets with a wide repertoire. Accompanied by Ken Thwaites (piano). 30th Special Concert: "That's what I call music" with Frank James & Friends. (more details to follow ). Frank is one of Scarborough's premier musicians with a professional background. July 7th The Ayton Ladies Choir. Considered by many to be the outstanding ladies choir in the area. A varied repertoire including excellent soloists. 14th Tenor Eleven. A group of tenors who specialise in the tenor solo repertoire; singing together & solo they offer songs both traditional & modern. 21st John Noblet presents. John's fine baritone voice is well known to music lovers in the district. He sings songs from around the world, often in the original language. 28th Special Concert: "A Festival of Choirs" including: St.Mary's Church Choir & The Scarborough Celebration Singers. Two very special local choirs. The Choir from St. Mary's has a rich store of choral music and outstanding skill in performing it. They also manage to delight us with modern songs , usually including vocal and instrumental items as well. The Celebration Singers also present Church music, but perhaps lean more towards the modern sacred songs and solos. Their programmes are varied; numbers from the classics and popular shows, often with special items on the piano. They have built up a strong following in a relatively short time. The two choirs will offer an interesting and enjoyable contrast and intend to combine for what should be a glorious sound during the evening. August 4th Manhatton Voices: Led by Sue Hartley (pianist). A group of very talented performers, they present contemporary works with an energetic, lively approach which delights their audiences. 11th Julia Sinclair & Sue Hartley. Outstanding singing from a comprehensive soprano repertoire. Including Grand opera, operetta, favourite ballads,modern musicals. with accompaniments of the very highest order. 18th Friends of the Library Music Group. Piano solos and duets are a special feature in a varied programme from a talented group of music lovers. The programmes also feature instrumental items, poems, monologues and one of Scarborough's leading tenors. 25th Special Concert: "Gala Concert Tribute": With Doreen Kay, Jean Taylor, John Mitchell & Don Kynman. The Queen Street Gala Concert was a highlight of the Scarborough scene for many years and some of the principal performers are brought together to remind us of those wonderful evenings. Leading performers on concert and theatre stages they will sing items from the whole range of musicals and operettas plus evergreen ballads and songs of every kind.. September 1st Scarborough & District Light Opera Society Produce a show annually. Occasionally more than one. They concentrate upon modem musical numbers with gifted soloists and excellent group presentation. They really do bring the theatre to the stage. Usually particularly well supported. 8th Simply Brass: Simply Brass are a group of brass and percussion musicians . An ensemble of 15 players, Simply Brass have an extensive repertoire of music ranging from Classical to music from films including James Bond and Lord of the Rings, to popular music and finally a bit of swing thrown in to round off a varied and exciting programme. 15th Christopher Thornton-Holmes, Vivienne England & The Other Three Tenors. During a varied career spanning more than 25 years, Christpopher Thornton-Holmes has sung for most members of the royal family and Pope John Paul II when he visited York in 1982. He has also sung for President Gorbachev on a visit to Milan, the German President during a visit to the U.K., and entertained the Queen of Jordan on a visit to Lebanon. He has performed on TV and radio, made CD and video recordings, and worked with many of the leading artists and conductors in the world of classical music.Chris recently sang a revival of Tosca at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. A graduate of the Northern College of music, he lives in Malton and teaches singing at the Kirkham Henry School of Music at Malton. . |
