Pastoral Letter

Greetings!

On three occasions recently I have been remembered. One Sunday morning a visitor introduced herself "We met in Jersey 1989". Then an e-mail came from a student Minister on placement, "Someone who knew you 30 years ago sends his good wishes". The third occasion was meeting members of a family I met on holiday at Highbury, Weston Super Mare just before the flood. There remains that feeling of being only one relationship away from someone you know in Methodism. That sense of being connected is an important part of life within the church. The New Testament images of the church include the people of God, the chosen people, living stones, the body of Christ. Each express something of our connectedness with Christ at the head.

On April 13th we welcome visiting preachers from the Whitby, Filey and Sherburn Circuits as they welcome preachers from the Scarborough Circuit. The Superintendents of these circuits meet regularly and these too are reminders of our connectedness. Our ministry to visitors means that we welcome familiar faces who return to Scarborough, or we receive greetings from churches and people whose paths we have crossed on our journey. On April 27th Rev Anne Cox, the district Network President will preach at our Easter Offering Service and reminding us of our worldwide connectedness.

A further reminder of our connectedness is that Scarborough plays host to Methodist Conference (July 3rd - 10th). The Spa is the venue, ordination services will be held at Queen Street, St Mary's and Westborough, and fringe events will be taking place all around the circuit. Much preparation has already gone on behind the scenes, but now the organisation steps up a gear.  is the website. It will be a real delight to welcome friends from across the connexion and throughout the world for if John Wesley could say "The World is my Parish" and his brother could write: "All praise to our redeeming Lord, who joins us by his grace, and bids us, each to each restored, together seek his face", then we are truly a connected people and thank God for it.
